Robots as social interaction partners
In the Laboratory for Communication, we develop and test innovative application scenarios for human-robot interaction (HRI) with humanoid robots. Our applications can be found on the lab's Github page: github.com/Humanoid-Robots-as-Edu-Assistants

Robots in the communications lab
The Laboratory for Communication currently has four different robotic systems:
- humanoid robots: Pepper and NAO (Softbak Robotics) , and Furhat (Furhat Robotics)
- Telepresence robots: Double (Double Robotics)
- own systems: Neffy (BHT)
The robots Pepper, NAO and Furhat are used as communication partners in various areas of application, including in the service sector as sales assistants, in education as teaching/learning assistants and in care as companions and play partners. The double robot is designed for remote collaboration.
All of our humanoid robots can interact with humans via voice and, if necessary, sensors. In some cases, it is possible to recognise objects, faces and basic human emotions.
Ready-made applications already exist for the various systems. It is also possible to programme new applications. Please get in touch with our laboratory staff for this (see contact person).
Application scenarios
Humanoid robots as learning assistants
Three humanoid robots NAO, Furhat and Pepper are being programmed in the Laboratory for Communication (Department I) under the direction of Prof Dr Ilona Buchem and tested in initial teaching scenarios. The interactions are being scientifically monitored and the results are being incorporated into research work in the field of human-robot interaction, including the programming of humanoid robots as social communication partners and learning assistants.
Further information can be found in the subpages with the individual application examples (use cases).
