NEFFY - your robotic breathing companion
NEFFY (Turkish ‘nefes’ = breath) is inspired by the Ommie robot, developed at Yale University.
The prototype Neffy1 emerged from a practical phase at the BHT in the period October23 - February24. A further practical phase developed Neffy2 from October24 - January25.
Neffy1

‘The breathing robot Neffy, developed by students on the Humanoid Robotics degree programme during the practical phase in the Laboratory for Communication, is designed to help people reduce stress. Neffy, already successfully in practical use in a retirement home, is showing promising results. Neffy impresses not only with its functionality, but also with its pleasant appearance: with closed eyes and a small body that moves gently up and down, the robot is reminiscent of Baby Yoda. Its calming presence and the gentle lifting and lowering of its body invite users to place their hands on its shoulders and intuitively synchronise their breathing rhythm. The aim is to match your own breathing to the calm, rhythmic rise and fall of the robot in order to reduce stress and calm down.’
Neffy2

Neffy2 was improved based on the findings from the design and use of Neffy1 in practice. The 2nd version of Neffy is characterised in particular by a more stable motor guide. In addition, the 2 screens have been replaced by a touch screen so that people can now interact with Neffy by touch.
Neffy2 has yet to be used with test groups.
